Your Home Maintenance Checklist For Every Season

Your Home Maintenance Checklist For Every Season

Regular home maintenance is important to keep your home in the best possible condition. To enjoy the perks of being a homeowner, like relaxing with a mug of hot chocolate by the fireplace in the winter or hosting a backyard barbeque on your deck in the summer, you need to stay on top of maintenance during each season.

Here are checklists for every season to keep your home in the best shape possible:

SPRING

Spring is the time to prepare for fun outdoor summer events. Dedicate some time to spring cleaning and home maintenance inside and outside of your home.

  • Power wash your home and deck
  • Make any needed repairs or upgrades to your deck
  • Put down mulch for landscaping
  • Clean your gutters
  • Get your air conditioner serviced
  • Check out your paint and siding and do touch-ups
  • Deep clean and declutter your home
  • Inspect your driveway and walkways for any damage
  • Test any railings on outdoor steps to make sure they’re secure
  • Clean outdoor furniture to prep for the summer

SUMMER

Summer is a great time to focus on the outdoor maintenance that your home needs while preparing the inside for cold weather well in advance of its arrival.

  • Landscape your lawn
  • Check for any small cracks in your home where air or pests could get in and seal them
  • Adjust your ceiling fans to turn counterclockwise to push warm air to the ceiling and push cool air down to the room
  • De-winterize your pool (clean it, add pool chemicals)
  • Clean refrigerator coils, vents, and ducts
  • Inspect your fencing
  • Wash windows and check that screens are in good shape
  • Inspect and repair your roof as needed
  • Clean out your garage

FALL

When the leaves begin to change colors and pumpkin spice lattes return to coffee shop menus, that’s your queue to gear up for winter months.

  • Reseed your lawn
  • Clean and inspect your fireplace
  • Insulate doors, windows, and pipes
  • Test your HVAC system
  • Winterize your air conditioning unit
  • Remove leaves and debris from your gutters
  • Get your furnace, boiler, and ductwork serviced

WINTER

While we’d all like to bundle up and enjoy time spent indoors in the winter, take time to prepare your home for cold and snowy weather — inside and out.

  • Get what you need for snow, like rock salt and a shovel
  • Prevent pipes from bursting by keeping cabinet doors open to allow warm air to circulate.
  • Let your faucets drip when temperatures drop
  • Adjust your ceiling fans to turn clockwise to move warm air from the ceiling to the room
  • Check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Make sure branches are trimmed to avoid damage to your home during winter storms
  • Cover outdoor air conditioning units
  • Inspect walls and ceilings for any signs of water damage or mold
