As you go about your life in northern Indiana, you likely walk into buildings and apartments constructed with materials from Miller’s Building Supply without ever knowing it.
Now, we want to reveal some of the projects we’ve helped make possible or are currently supplying materials for. It’s part of what makes us special as a locally owned and operated business — giving back to our own community by helping make it an appealing and fun place to live and work.
Here are some of the local projects we’ve been working on in Elkhart with DJ Construction, a family-owned commercial construction company established in 1954.
WELLFIELD BOTANIC GARDENS
Wellfield Botanic Gardens, located at 1011 N. Main St. in Elkhart, is currently undergoing construction to develop a 12,000 sq. ft. visitors center and open air pavilion. The project also includes relocation and repurposing of the existing Visitors Cottage and increased parking capacity.
Construction on the Events and Visitors Center Expansion Project began in July 2023 to bring an even better guest experience to the more than 75,000 visitors Wellfield Botanic Gardens gets each year. The new and improved visitors center will include a welcome center, cafe, gift shop, restrooms, a board room that honors David Gundlach, an Elkhart philanthropist, three event rooms, and an atrium with beautiful views of Swan Island and the gardens.
The open air pavilion will be available for public and private events, with space for 500 guests for weddings, meetings, markets, and more.
The expansion project, designed by Arkos Design and constructed by DJ Construction, uses building materials from Miller’s Building Supply and has an expected completion date of mid-November 2024.
900 JCKSN
New condominiums, 900 JCKSN, are located at 950 East Jackson Blvd. in Elkhart, in the heart of Downtown Elkhart's River District neighborhood. These one, two, and three-bedroom units on the Upper St. Joseph River were constructed by DJ Construction using lumber supplied by us at Miller’s Building Supply.
These condominiums have top-of-the-line amenities like a courtyard and firepit available to residents and roof deck with stunning views of the river. Amenities include over 300 feet of seawall for boat access, two-car indoor parking garages, private patios and terraces with each unit, and access to everything downtown has to offer within a 10-minute walk.
